Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving. A day where everyone, everywhere can do something to support the good causes and communities that mean so much to them. It is a day to celebrate and encourage giving in all its forms.

It’s an important date in the calendar for organisations that rely on voluntary donations, providing an opportunity for donors and charities alike to stand in solidarity to address big issues.

International Health Partners (IHP) is a global health charity dedicated to delivering essential and lifesaving healthcare to vulnerable and disaster-hit communities. Our mission is vital but difficult, and the encouragement of others publicly standing with us in our work is so valuable.

For me personally, it is also an opportunity to live out my faith.

For me personally, it is also an opportunity to live out my faith. At IHP, one of our foundational Biblical verses says: ‘truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’ (Matthew 25:40.) It is a verse that underpins all we do at IHP and one that encapsulates the spirit of Giving Tuesday.

Reliable healthcare is essential throughout our lives. In the UK, when faced with illness, both minor and severe, we can rely on our health system to provide the care and medication we need to bring us back to health. However, 2 billion people worldwide lack access to the medicines they need. IHP works where reliable healthcare is not an everyday reality.

This Giving Tuesday, IHP is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, where every donation made from today until 5 December, will be doubled!*

As we respond in the aftermath of devastating conflicts in Ukraine or the Middle East, or support a young cancer patient in Malawi, initiatives like Giving Tuesday offer hope.

This Giving Tuesday, IHP is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, where every donation made from today until 5 December, will be doubled!*

Money raised will support children facing cancer in Malawi and Cameroon with the provision of lifesaving chemotherapy treatments. Every year, 400,000 children worldwide are diagnosed with cancer – but the chance of survival is a geographical lottery. In low- and middle-income countries, fewer than 3 in 10 children with cancer are cured, compared to 8 in 10 in high-income countries like the UK. There are cost-effective medicines to address the most treatable forms of cancer but accessing them is a challenge and the barrier between cure or death.

Every donation received on Giving Tuesday translates into improved health outcomes, strengthened healthcare systems, and, ultimately, a brighter, healthier future for the most vulnerable among us.

Through the collective action of Giving Tuesday, we can all stand with our fellow brothers and sisters and be that beacon of hope this Christmas. What better way to put that spirit of generosity into action?

*The Big Give Christmas challenge runs from midday 28 November – midday 5 December.
