Andrew Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist influencer has been charged in Romania with rape, human trafficking and forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women. Here we take a look at his religious beliefs.
Andrew Tate is a British-American influencer who is surrounded with controversy. The 36-year-old had his first brush with fame when he was sensationally removed from the UK Big Brother house in 2016 after a video was released that appeared to show him attacking a woman. He denied the authenticity of the footage and said it had been edited to make him look bad.
Since then, he’s built a huge profile on social media where he flaunts his luxurious lifestyle of expensive cars and private jets. Last year Tate was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and organised crime. He was charged in Romania last week with rape, human trafficking and forming and organised crime. Tate denies the charges. In fact, he has since tweeted that this is all a ploy for the Romanian government to get their hands on his vast wealth.
The influencer said in an interview that he was “absolutely a misogynist”.
Shortly before he was arrested last year, he engaged in a high-profile Twitter spat with environmental activist Greta Thunberg.

Tate was raised as a member of the Romanian Orthodox Church. As an adult he turned away from Christian teachings and announced he was an atheist. But it was just before his arrest in December 2022 that he officially announced his conversion to Islam claiming that it was “the last true religion” and saying that other Christians should do the same.

According to the disgraced influencer, if he had to bet on a particular religion as he does in the financial market, it would be Islam. As he announced the Christian community too tolerant and as such they go against their teachings.
Tate’s conversion wasn’t a shock to the Muslim community as he had been vocal about his admiration for the faith in recent times. In October 2022 he attended a mosque in Dubai where a video of him praying went viral. During a court appearance on January 10, 2023 he appeared holding a copy of the Quran.
